The solar system is part of the Milky Way, which is one of the billions of galaxies.
What is the relationship between Earth and the rest of the universe?
Our PROJECT: Creating a scaled solar system along our valley trail and designing a brochure to encourage others to travel to your planet or satellite.
Here students were stationed at scaled down distances from the sun where they had to set up an information station about their travel agency. The sun was represented by a basketball with a diameter of 23 cm and was the closest to the front entrance of the school. All other planets and satellites were scaled down and created out of clay. As students and parents toured through space our students taught them about the different planets and satellites. It was amazing to to see how big our solar system really is and to see how tiny some of our planets are is comparison. We have used the scale of 1 : 6 000 000 000 which means that 1 meter along the valley trail represents 6 billion meters in space!
